Does Google Analytics Have GDPR Compliance?
By ToolVS Research Team · Last checked April 1, 2026
GA4 has improved privacy features but remains controversial in Europe. Some EU data authorities have ruled it non-compliant without proper safeguards.
What We Found
We checked this in April 2026 and here's what we found — GA4 introduced several privacy features: cookieless measurement, data deletion requests, IP anonymization by default, and consent mode. However, several EU data protection authorities have ruled that GA transfers to US servers violate GDPR. Google now offers EU-only data storage, but the legal landscape remains uncertain. Many EU sites use cookie consent banners or switch to EU-hosted alternatives.
Limitations
- ⚠️ Legal uncertainty in some EU countries
- ⚠️ Requires cookie consent banner for compliance
- ⚠️ Data still processed by Google (US company)
- ⚠️ Some features reduced without cookie consent
