Editor's Take
QuickBooks is the safe, boring, correct choice for US small businesses. I know that sounds backhanded, but in accounting, boring is good. Your accountant will thank you, tax time will be smoother, and the integrations with everything from Shopify to Gusto just work. The price increases frustrate me — it used to be $25/mo for Simple Start, now it is $30. But the reality is that the accountant compatibility alone justifies the premium. If you are outside the US, Xero is the better choice. If you want free, Wave is genuinely capable.
