How Color Harmony Modes Work

Analogous

Colors adjacent on the wheel (30° apart). Creates a serene, comfortable design. Great for nature themes and organic brands.

Complementary

Colors opposite on the wheel (180°). Maximum contrast and visual impact. Perfect for CTAs and bold designs.

Triadic

Three colors equally spaced (120°). Vibrant yet balanced. Works well for playful or creative projects.

Split-Comp

Base color + two adjacent to its complement (150°, 210°). Strong contrast with less tension than complementary.

Monochromatic

Single hue with varying saturation and lightness. Elegant and cohesive. Ideal for minimalist and professional designs.

Random

Completely random colors for unexpected combinations. Lock the ones you like and regenerate the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I save a palette?

Click the heart/save button above the palette strips. Palettes are stored in your browser's localStorage (up to 10). Click "My Palettes" to load or delete saved palettes.

What does locking a color do?

Locked colors stay fixed when you click Generate. This lets you keep colors you like while exploring new options for the rest of the palette.

How do I share a palette?

Use Export > Shareable URL. This encodes all 5 colors in the URL hash, so anyone with the link sees your exact palette.

Which harmony mode should I use?

For professional/corporate: Monochromatic or Analogous. For bold/creative: Complementary or Triadic. For balanced variety: Split-Complementary. For exploration: Random.
